Father’s Day is Sunday and if you’re racking your brain about what to get the guy in your life, it’s not too late to still pick up the perfect gift. If you feel like you need to have something in hand to give him on Sunday besides just a card, I have some suggestions of items that can be purchased in store. If Dad is coveting the Samsung Galaxy 4, surprise him by pre-ordering it for arrival later this month because it’s truly worth the wait!
Here are a few picks based on some of the items that we’ve tried and love that would make any dad’s day!
Kindle Paperwhite— The Kindle Paperwhite made my list of recommendations for moms and it’s on my list again as a great gift for dads. It’s perfectly sized to tuck into a briefcase or backpack for reading while commuting or traveling, light as a feather, and has an incredible battery life can go uncharged for up to 10 days. Unlike other multitasking eReaders, this is nicely priced and puts the focus on reading books that he loves without the hassle of being compelled to check email or having to give up his eReader in favor of requests to play Angry Birds. Available in store from Staples and Best Buy for $119 or save yourself some time and purchase it online from both stores and then go pick it up in person.
GoPro Hero 3— Even if dad isn’t an extreme athlete, chances are he’ll find some great uses for his brand new GoPro Hero 3 and be the envy of those around him who will ask about this cool gadget. The compact GoPro Hero 3 is a camera that can be worn, held, or mounted to your sporting equipment for ultimate versatility when capturing still or video high definition footage. It comes with a clear case with either a watertight back or one with spaces for capturing better audio, can be activated to shoot via an app on your smartphone, and fits in the palm of your hand even when encased in its protective plastic case. Available in store from Target Electronics for $199. If dad already has a GoPro, add to his collection of accessories so he can get more use out of the device!
Sonos Play 3 Wireless HiFi Speaker System— Last year I called the Sonos Play 3 the future of home audio and am adding it to the list of gift picks for dads because not only does it stream music from your digital library and online music services but it delivers high sound quality, can be operated through an app, and is endlessly expandable. For a full review, visit Sonos Play 3: Future of Home Audio and then visit Target Electronics to pick it up in-store where you can get a free bridge ($49 value) with the purchase of the Sonos Play 3 for $299. Offer of the free bridge with purchase is good in stores through Saturday.
Pre-order the Samsung Galaxy 4 for in-store pickup on June 21— I called the previous versions of the Samsung Galaxy the Cadillac of smartphones but the newest model is even better. High performing features like the indestructible Gorilla Glass, the ability to wave your hand over the phone to take calls, Air View and Air Gesture features allow you to well, hover to get a preview of content on the screen, and the fact that it’s life proof (aka pool, sprinkler, and sticky hand safe) is a huge bonus for dads who let their kids play with their phones. While an in-depth review is in the works and coming soon, this video by AT&T that tells you everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy 4 in under 2 minutes. Available to pre-order in Urban Gray and Dive Blue online through AT&T for $199 with a 2 year contract. DC readers can get 2 free one-day passes to the AT&T National with their purchase a Samsung Galaxy S® 4 from AT&T. For more information, visit http://uverseonline.att.net/sports/golf/national.
Hammock with hammock stand— If dad loves gadgets but really prefers to unplug, then by all means encourage it! Help him relax on the weekends or after a long day at work with a hammock and hammock stand. Places like L.L. Bean retail stores, World Market, Target, and sporting goods stores have them in store and my recommendation would be to purchase one out of Sunbrella fabric that drys quickly in case of summer thunderstorms, is easy to clean, and is far more durable than rope or fabric ones.
