Dads CAN be hard to shop for but they don’t have to be! The key is to get him something that he’s been wanting but won’t buy for himself or to give him something totally out of left field that you know he’d love! I’ve curated some of my favorite gift for guys into this year’s Father’s Day gift guide that’s full of fun stuff for dads and grandfathers alike!
Gadget Loving Dads
Tagg Pet Tracker ($99.95) — Even before wearables were hot for humans, I heard about Tagg at a pet blogging conference. This pet tracking system allows you to track your pet’s location and activity from your computer or mobile device. By attaching to your dog’s (or cat’s) collar, Tagg works to help you pinpoint your pet’s whereabouts and monitor their activity level, making it especially helpful to owners of pets who happen to wander or want to ensure that their animal is getting enough exercise. Tagg notifications are sent via email or text to your iPhone or Android device when your pet wanders. Simply pull up the Tagg mobile website, app, or text LOCATE to a certain number and Tagg will provide the address of your pet’s location nationwide. The small, lightweight device clips on their collar and can withstand jumping, running, digging, swimming, crawling, and sleeping. The $99.95 price includes the Tagg Tracker, docking statin, collar clip assembly, power kit, and two months of service. Additional months of service are $9.95/month, a small price to pay for the heartache of losing your pet for good.
Belkin WeMo Light Switch ($49.99)— Indulge dad’s gadget addiction with the latest tech gifts such as the WeMo Light Switch. After installing a Wi-Fi enabled WeMo switch, Dad can use his smart device to flip lights on or off from across the room or even around the world! No, he can’t turn off the lights in your dorm room but he can customize schedules and automatically turn lights on or off using the WeMo app– a perfect solution for thwarting burglars or saving electricity.
Anker 2nd Gen Astro3 12000mAh External Battery Charger ($99.99)— Dads who are always on the go need external chargers that can keep their various devices powered up throughout the day. I recently took the Anker Portable Charger Triple USB External Battery pack with my on my trip to Haiti so it could keep my phone, Samsung NX30, and NX Mini cameras charged plus still have enough juice to help out friends who were running low. I found that having a high mAh external battery charger is key plus I love that this Anker model has 3 USB ports to charge three different devices simultaneously! Currently offered by Amazon for $45.99- a total steal for the amount of power this external battery charger contains!
Silverlit Nano Falcon ($49.99)— Take Dad back to his childhood with the world’s smallest remote control helicopter! With a size of just 65mm and weighing 11g, the Falcon holds the Guinness World Record Title for the smallest remote controlled helicopter. But don’t let it’s small size fool you—the 3 channel heli flies up and down, forward and backward, and left and right for easy maneuvering inside and out. Plus the built-in gyro stabilizer and precise variable speed rotor means that it’s easy to fly and control.
Fitbit Flex ($99.99)— With so many fitness wearables on the market, one outstanding choice continues to be the FitBit Flex. This wireless activity and sleep wristband will help your guy monitor his activity and sleep in order to make lifestyle changes for the better as it works to track steps, distance, calories burned, and also sleep cycles. FitBit Flex also functions as an alarm clock, waking you quietly during a pre-set time range when it finds that you’re at an optimal time for getting up. All data syncs wirelessly to your PC, iOS, or Android device for real-time feedback on your daily activity. The only thing that would make FitBit Flex better is if it had an LCD screen to display the time but given the price, ease of use, and interface, it gets a huge thumbs up and makes for a great gift! Available from RadioShack.com.
Outdoor Loving Dads
Anker Tempered-Glass Screen protector ($29.99)- I’ve seen far too many cracked screens and heard dropped phone disasters to think that even the toughest of phone cases is enough to protect your phone. I prefer to give my phone’s screen an added layer of protection with Anker Tempered Glass Screen Protector. Available for iPhone5 or Samsung Galaxy models (including S5), this easy to apply screen protector provide added insurance against the bumps and bruises that come with using a smartphone constantly. Most models of Anker Tempered-Glass Screen Protectors are selling for $15.99 or less at Amazon.com.
OtterBox Symmetry for iPhone 5/5s ($39.95-44.95)— Gone are the days of boring solid phone cases for guys. The OtterBox Symmetry Series for iPhone 5/5s is a slim case that doesn’t add bulk to the device and features wraparound graphics or solid colors in a variety of color pairings. Get 10% off your order when you purchase directly from the OtterBox website and pair this with a screen protector for a great gift that will provide ultimate protection for dad’s smartphone. Also, while you’re shopping for him, be sure to check out the fashionable and functional cases for women in great patterns like Eden, Dreamy Pink, and Cheetah Pink!
Lifeproof frē Samsung Galaxy S5 case ($79.99)— If Dad loves his new S5, give him the ultimate protection for his favorite device with a Lifeproof frē case. I’m a longtime fan of Lifeproof but the frē case works to protect the S5 without hampering features such as the Finger Scanner, Heart Rate Sensor, or access to the buttons or controls. The slim profile mirrors the Galaxy’s lines but provides protections against drops from up to 2 meters, increases the waterproof rating, and has a built-in scratch protector for touchscreen defense.
Music Loving Dads
AirBuds ($39.99)— Gone are the days of ill-fitting earbuds that fall out mid-workout, partway through a movie on the plane, or in the middle of an important call. AirBuds claim to be the most comfortable earbuds and while I haven’t tested every earbud on the market, I have to say these are indeed comfortable. The memory foam ensures a comfortable and secure fit while helping to reduce external noise so you can enjoy your movie, call, or music just a bit more.
SONOS Playbar TV Soundbar and Wireless Speaker for Streaming Music ($699)— For dads who are serious about sound, you can’t go wrong with the Sonos Playbar. This wireless soundbar delivers home theater acoustics while wirelessly streaming your music collection through one streamlined, easy-to-use soundbar. With just two cords- one power cord, and one optical cord (both included)- setup is quick and easy so Dad can be connected to his favorite music quickly.

Choose what fits your budget and what your guy needs to step out on your next date night in style!
Wahl Lithium Ion Stainless Steel Trimmer ($69.99)— Make manscaping even easier for dear Dad thanks to the Lithium Ion Tool that features heavy duty, stainless steel blades, a 4 hour run time, and twice the torque of a standard trimmer to power for interchangeable heads (detail shaver, T-blade, rotary, and detail heads). And if Dad circles the globe for work, he can pack this in the included travel pouch knowing that worldwide voltage makes this trimmer a great travel tool.
Dads who Dream of a Man Cave
Samsung 55-Inch 3D Smart LED TV ($1899.99)— Whether Dad is planning a basement takeover for a man cave or a family room refresh, the Samsung 55-Inch 3D Smart LED TV will help him relax and recharge thanks to a 1080p display that provides incredible picture color and detail, Clear Motion Rate 960 for motion clarity, dual screen for simultaneously watching shows and web browsing, and the Samsung’s Smart Hub for easy navigation.
Logitech Harmony Smart Control Remote ($129.99)— Control your home theater from your smartphone? Absolutely with the Logitech Harmony Smart Control Remote. This turns your smartphone into a Harmony Remote that can control all of your home theater and stereo devices. If you aren’t familiar with the Harmony brand, they’re a gold standard for Universal Remotes that help to eliminate the need for multiple remotes for your various home theater equipment. We’ve been using the Logitech Harmony Smart Control Remote for the past couple months and can honestly we say we love the additional ability to control our home theater through our smartphone to eliminate yet another remote. For my full review, visit How to Control Your Home Theater from Your Smartphone: Logitech Harmony Smart Control Remote Review.
Xbox One ($499.99 with Kinect)— I can’t say much more about the Xbox One than what I already included in my Babble post called 13 Reasons Xbox One Will Rock Your Living Room. Change living room to man cave and get this for Dad if you don’t already have one.
Food Loving Dads
Back to Butter ($24.99)— It’s no secret to those who follow me on Instagram that we’re a family who loves to eat and cook, especially with the freshest ingredients that come either from our garden or the week’s CSA share. One of my new favorite cookbooks is Back to Butter because it is all about real ingredients and real food without the processed junk that isn’t great for our bodies. With beautiful images and tasty recipes, this is definitely a cookbook that any foodie dad would enjoy along with a trip to the local farmers’ market!
Tonguespank Spice Company Spice Blends ($8 for 2 oz)— While I haven’t personally tried these yet, the blends called Garlic Grappa, Citrus Rum, Smoky Bourbon, Wasabi Sake, and Scorpion Bourbon are definitely eye catching! Nicely priced at $8 for 2 ounce bottle, I don’t think you can go wrong getting a bottle or two to try. Of course, if you want a sampler that contains all, the Liquor & Heat Complete Collection four flavors (just not Wasabi Sake) for the sale price of $35 (regularly $39).
And Don’t Forget Grandfathers!
Tandem Lane subscription box ($25/month)— “As kids, our grandparents went out of their way to love us, support us, and spoil us. Now, we’d like the opportunity to do the same for them” begins the story of Tandem Lane, a subscription box service designed to serve as a care package for elderly relatives. I love the idea behind this because each box’s contents are carefully curated with items to match the recipient’s personality to let your loved ones know you’re thinking of them. Boxes are available for 1, 3, or 6 months.
