This is a sponsored post. With just about a month until school starts, it’s a prime month for summer getaways but before you dust off that suitcase, take some time to assess the protection of one of your most valuable travel tools — your smartphone. We know we have a bit of a romance with our smartphones and for trips, they serve as the ultimate travel companion, helping us during the pre-flight process by helping us plan activities and store travel documents even before we leave. They also allow us to leave behind our paper boarding passes, maps, travel guides, cameras, iPod and books to lighten our loads and streamline travel. What are we doing on our cell phones when we’re traveling? According to Asurion, the recognized industry leader in technology protection, here are the top five mobile activities for summer travelers*
- Taking photos (69%)
- Getting maps/directions (47%)
- Listening to music (45%)
- Posting social media photos (45%)
- Playing games (40%)
Being on the go, enjoying outdoor activities, and spending time around the water can pose a risk to cell phones. It’s important to put a good screen protector on your phone along with a durable case but since nothing ruins a vacation like a lost, stolen, or damaged cellphone, it’s also important to consider investing in device protection so that you can remain connected, entertained and up to date during the summer and throughout the year. Asurion sees more claims filed for lost, stolen and damaged cellphones in July and August than any other months of the year. According to Asurion claims data, the top ten cities where phones are most likely to be lost or stolen during the summer months (May through September) are:
- Miami
- San Jose
- New York
- San Francisco
- Los Angeles
- Chicago
- San Antonio
- Houston
- Las Vegas
- Orlando
With so many snatch and grabs on our Metro system and the high number of tourists who visit our city each year, I’m a bit surprised that Washington, D.C. didn’t make the list but am also a bit relieved! So as you plan to head off on that final summer getaway, ask your wireless carrier about adding mobile protection to your phone this summer so you can travel worry free thanks to the confidence that Asurion provides rapid mobile device replacement in the event of loss, theft, damage or post-warranty malfunction. In the event of a mobile emergency when traveling, Asurion can generally get you a replacement overnight. Asurion’s Premier Support Solutions technology professionals can answer a wide variety of customers’ questions and resolve problems related to wireless products and devices connected with them so can keep enjoying your vacation without the worry and hassle of going without your phone for too long.

I fear leaving my phone at an unknown and unfamiliar place. I’ve been lucky so far! Thank goodness for that!
Thankfully nothing has happened thus far! I fear one of my kids pulling the phone out of my bag and leaving it somewhere or better yet throwing into the toilet like my 1 year old loves to do…
I am forever forgetting my phone in the rest room of a store or restaurant. Luckily it’s always been there when I went back. I really have a fear of leaving it and someone taking the phone.
I dropped my phone down stairs at a hotel and was out of town. Needless to say it was a disaster.
I set mine in my purse next to me on bus and had groceries the bus driver missed my stop so I was frazzled trying to alert him so when i got off bus I left my purse as I was walking down street I realized something was not right I DID NOT HAVE MY PURSE eek I was so lucky to run back up and the bus was at the light he let me on to get my purse.
I have dropped my phone into the toilet. I have also dropped it into a cup of water that was in my center console on the way to school. I have terrible luck with phones haha
I am more worried about my kids losing my phone while we travel… that was the hardest thing to keep track of when we flew earlier this summer. They would leave it on the seats, in the pockets. BUT… I was also thankful for the distraction for them when needed.
I don’t really fear anything, because the bible say everything you fear with come upon you. I have peace at all times everything will be ok
My worst fear is losing my phone and never finding it!
I left my phone outside the hotel and went up to my room for like an hour without realizing I had left it! Losing my phone is a big fear of mine, thankfully it was still there when we went back!
I had lost a lot of photos due to a computer virus years ago. I really don’t fear much because of cloud back up now. Unless that goes away.
I’m afraid of losing my phone.
I have dropped my phone into the toilet twice.
I’ve dropped my phone a few times, usually when I have too much in my hands. I am lucky that the case protected it…so far.
I fear someone stealing my phone and getting my information
I accidently washed my phone! It got really banged up and never worked right again.
I fear losing my phone.
I left my old flip phone in my car on a hot day. When I got in and flipped it open, it cracked.
I have lost my phone in my house. But I found it. I was so darn worried. I make sure to not let this happen again!!
My fear is losing my phone and having someone have access to all my personal information and contacts.
So far on my iphone I have had no problems or mishaps, guess I been lucky. My fear is laying it down while out shopping and leaving it and then it would be gone.
I’ve been lucky so far. Crossing fingers!
I’ve thankfully never lost or broken a cell phone, but I know plenty of people who have!
Left the smartphone on a bench in a busy playground , was lucky enough to still find it 10 minutes later ! What a relief!
Ive been really lucky with my phone
my biggest mishap was a few years ago, we just got new phones that day I spilled my coffee on my new smartphone so my husband gives me his old one (still a great smart phone) then…. in the afternoon I spill coke all over it. these phones were ruined. I was given a loaner 10 dollar phone and am still using it today. lots of spills and it is still working
i dropped my phone in the toilet a week ago. totally sucked because my insurance doesn’t cover that kind of injury so i had to pay a couple hundred to get a new one! ugh!
Fortunately I haven’t had any mishaps yet, but I’m worried about spilling water on my phone.
I dropped my phone in the toilet.Luckily it was a Sony Xperia so it was waterproof.
I did,i had my cell phone in my back jeans pocket when i went to restroom and somehow it felt in toilet,I killed that phone that same day;-)
I fear my device getting a virus because of it’s internet capabilities and no virus protection program
I’ve been lucky so far.
I often put my phone in my back pocket, and so I’m always afraid I will forget when I have to go to the bathroom, and my phone will fall in the toilet.
I was in Orlando at Sea World my kids just had to sit in the splash zone of the Shamu show. I hid my cell phone in a bag, inside my purse tucked under my shirt and it still got soaked. I tried just wiping it off, hoping it just was wet on the outside. I couldn’t be so lucky as soon as I turned it on it made a sizzling noise an flickered and it was done.
I was using the talk to text function telling my husband how much I loved him and would rather stay home with him then go to work and then he text back and asked “see who” so i scrolled back up and my phone had said If you let me go see him tonight I will love you I have no idea how it got that but i quickly called my husband and fixed it lol.
What I fear happening is my laptop suddenly failing me. It would be the worst to lose all of my work files and our family’s pictures.
Big fear: My iPad would be lost if dropped into the ocean on a cruise ship.
I cannot say how many smart phones I have dropped and broke and I have had one stolen. I always have Asurion insurance and it makes the loss a little easier to deal with.
i dropped a phone and the hinge came out so i had to get another one & i dropped it the first week and the same things happened!
i fear leaving my phone in a public place and im luck so far tht i havnt yet
I have dropped and shattered a phone screen before. I fear doing that again. I also fear my daughter getting around the blocks and ordering a ton of apps.
I dropped it in heavy whipping cream before it was whipped. it was done for!
I dropped my phone and broke the screen.
I’ve been lucky so far! My biggest fear is dropping my phone on the concrete!
I left a 3 day old iphone 5c in the front pocket of my sweatshirt and washed it!
Somehow I luckily managed to salvage it and it’s now in a Lifeproof case.
I’m also a big fan of LifeProof cases! Mine goes back on whenever I don’t need the extra power from the Resurgence!
Oh and the phone before that one fell out of my pocket on the concrete steps (more than once) and cracked the screen.
I fear dropping my phone in the lake like my husband did one time!
So far so good, but I fear leaving my phone somewhere and coming back to find it gone, losing all my contacts, etc.
I have had no mishaps thus far, but I am always misplacing it and fear I will actually lose it someday.
I’ve dropped my phone in the river, luckily it had an otterbox case on it so it wasn’t damaged!
We had an incident where the phone was dropped in the toilet, in the river etc. Apparently anywhere there is water is a problem for us.
Would have to say that when you text someone something that they other is not to see and was sent to them instead (the wrong person)
I fear the day my son breaks my phone or tablet!! I have good protective cases though. Oh i would hate to forget my tech somewhere! That would be the worst.
i tried to fix my phone after watching a You Tube video – it didn’t work as they described!
I sent a text to a new contact. His name was Brian. I texted him – as “Hello Brain” – he said he showed a friend and was congratulated.
My battery on my phone goes down really fast! I couldn’t fix it myself so I had to get a new one
So far I have been extremely lucky. But I am quite clumsy, so I am always afraid I am going to drop my phone and crack the screen
Two years ago, I had my first mishap with my cell phone. I had a habit of dropping my phone into a grocery bag when I carried them in the house. I had done this for many years without any issues. This one time, I dropped my phone into a bag and carried it the house. After making a few trips, went to get my phone, it was at the bottom, covered in Ginger Ale. A bottle had broke, flooding my phone. Thankfully, I had Asurion, my phone was replaced. I never threw my phone in a grocery bag again 🙂
We have been lucky so far too, but I always worry about someone taking it out of the stroller or shopping cart. Shopping with Carter…I get distracted watching him too…that I always get nervous someone will snatch it up!
I have dropped my phone on my driveway twice and cracked the screen both times. This was super expensive since I didn’t have a protection plan.

My son once attempted to flush my phone, and I somehow got it working again. I fear dropping my phone and breaking the screen! I hate that.
i recently was just saying how i dropped my phone so many times and nothing happened i was beginning to think it was indestructible and then just days after i dropped it and shattered it:(
My mother in law recently lost her phone and she actually thinks that it was pick-pocketed out of her back pocket. One of my worst fears is losing my phone and not being able to call someone if I need help. I am also fearful of dropping my phone in the bathtub or the toiler
