If you’re catching a movie this weekend and feel like your AMC theater could use an upgrade, it could be among 100 theaters that will become a Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime location. Earlier this week Dolby Laboratories and AMC Prime announced what Business Week calls a next-generation cinema experience complete with laser projection technology. Dolby Vision™ laser projection will be combined with Dolby Atmos sound that will be experienced while sitting in AMC Prime power reclining seats with seat transducers that vibrate with the action on screen. The spectacular image and sound technologies combined with inspired design and comfort will become the ultimate theater experience.
How will this movie experience be better?
The Dolby Vision laser projection system delivers high dynamic range with enhanced color technology that produces incredible blacks and a contrast ratio that is said to exceed other image technology on the market. This results in a richer, more detailed viewing experience that provides vivid and realistic images that are designed to better immerse viewers into the world of the movie.
Dolby Atmos, the award-winning Dolby® sound technology, moves audio around all sides of the theatre thanks to dozens of speakers in the theater (even ones overhead) to provide richness and depth of sound. Lifelike sounds of music, people, and things flow all around the theatre are precisely timed to the action to create a more immersive and moving experience.
Will there be a Dolby Cinema and AMC Prime near me?
Four AMC locations in major cities across the United States will be the first to have Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime as AMC works to expand to 50 operating locations by December 2018. Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime cities include San Francisco, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Miami, Boston, Denver, and Seattle. By December 2024, Dolby expects to have 100 AMC Prime locations around the country.
What movies might you be able to see first at Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime locations?
While this news is still under wraps, The Verge speculates that hot May releases such as The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Tomorrowland might be among the first to be shown in Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime theaters around the country.
