It’s an exciting time in the lives of two of our kids’ most beloved babysitters as one looks forward to a wedding this fall and the other celebrates her recent engagement and embarks on her own wedding planning for nuptials next year. A wedding is a significant milestone that is followed by many others such as a honeymoon, first home, and the first joint filing of taxes as a married couple!
In an effort to educate consumers on ways to stay safe through all of life’s stages, Master Lock is recognizing the commitment that couples are making to each other with helpful tips and product suggestions for an exciting life ahead.
The Registry
When my husband and I registered for items for our wedding, we enjoyed selecting china and flatware patterns with no thought about safety and security items that would protect our valuables in the long run. Apparently we aren’t alone because out of the two million U.S. and Canadian residents who get married each year, 84% don’t think to include safety items on their wedding registry. Through years of marriage, we’ve acquired a safe to secure valuables inside our home along with the Sentry Safe FHW40200 Waterproof Fire-Resistant File that ensures paperwork like our marriage license, kids’ birth certificates, passports, and other important belongings are safeguarded for years to come.
The Honeymoon
Honeymoons are only blissful when you take precautions to be safe regardless of where you are going. As you pack your swimsuit, sunglasses, and other items for your getaway, also be sure to get a Master Lock 5900D SafeSpace portable safe that can keep credit cards, cash, jewelry, etc. safe on the beach or in your hotel room. TSA approved luggage locks for your bags can keep your belongings safe in transit. I always travel with the Master Lock 4688D or 4692D locks on my bags to keep extra hands out of my bags. I like the flexible cable of my red 4688D (also comes in black, silver, or blue) while the 4692D features a leather-like cover in brown or black with white stitching for a classic retro feel evoking old world travel.
The Home
Another milestone in coupledom is renting a first apartment together or the first purchase of a home with both names on the title. But with a burglary occurring every 15 seconds, it’s important to secure all of your belongings that now reside under one room. Added protection and security measures like deadbolts, a door security bar, or cable locks to secure outdoor items are worthwhile long term investments for the security of your belongings in your new space.
The Finances
The first joint filing of taxes can be advantageous because being married allows couples to deduct two exemption amounts from their income and qualify for multiple credits. But two incomes and double the expenses to keep track of can make tax time more difficult if you’re not organized from the start. The free Master Lock Vault makes it easy to stay organized because it serves as a digital safe deposit box that allows you to store credit card numbers, digital copies of tax forms, or other important documents in a secure, reliable location for easy access from any smart phone or computer, allowing you and your spouse access to your records at any time.

There are so many things that you talk about that we DON’T Do. I shudder to think what we’d lose if we ever had a catastrophe (passports and important documents need to be kept somewhere safe). Thanks for posting.
You’re so welcome and like so many, I get caught up in life! It’s easy to overlook the importance of safeguarding your important documents until something happens and it’s too late! If nothing else, snap a photo and upload them to Master Lock Vault for a quick and easy way to store a digital copy securely for all eternity! 🙂
So true! We may have been broke but I am happy we got engaged young so grew financially sound and life ready together.
