Many people have a house full of smoke alarms, one on each floor, one near each bedroom, etc. These devices were likely installed by you or your home builder many years ago. Some companies would like you to replace all of them with expensive WiFi enabled detectors, but Kidde RemoteLync Monitor does the trick without needing to replace anything.
How Kidde RemoteLync Monitor Works
The RemoteLync Monitor is an ingenious product that can be placed centrally in your home to listen for alarms in any room and then relays the information to you and/or your emergency contacts via email and text message. This small cube plugs into a wall outlet somewhere in your house and connects to your WiFi network and listens for the industry-standard alarm tones for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
The RemoteLync Monitor product includes a mobile application (iOS & Android) that guides you through the setup and configuration process. During the setup, the device asks you to push the test button on your smoke alarm and then also on your carbon monoxide alarm. These tones are industry-standard, so the RemoteLync Monitor is built to work with all different brands of UL listed detectors.
Notifications from Kidde RemoteLync
If an alarm is triggered in your house, the RemoteLync Monitor hears the tone and then sends the notifications that you’ve configured via text message and/or email. Getting text messages when a smoke alarm is triggered in your house can be invaluable if you’re not at home. Getting a notification immediately allows you to dial 911 immediately to get first responders on the scene.
Whether you’re at the grocery store, at work, or gone on vacation, the system allows notifications to be sent to multiple people, allowing you to notify everyone in your family, extended family, a house sitter, or trusted neighbors to provide peace of mind.
Affordable Self Monitoring System Provides Peace of Mind
Because it’s “self monitored” by you and/or your friends there is no monthly fee, unlike expensive monthly service options from home alarm companies. The only advantage the home alarm companies have over this product is that they will call the fire department for you. With the RemoteLync Monitor, the responsibility to call 911 lands on the recipients of the text messages.
The RemoteLync Monitor product monitors all of your smoke alarms in the house, providing a very affordable and painless way to enable remote monitoring of your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Installation is painless… no wiring, no ladder, no swapping out tons of smoke detectors. At $99, it’s pretty painless on your wallet too.
Kidde RemoteLync Monitor is available at Home Depot for $99.

Kidde compensated me for my time in evaluating their RemoteLync Monitor but all opinions are my own.
I have had it go off in the middle of cooking.
Just recently I was in the shower and I had fries in the oven and the alarm went off. I’d say that’s pretty inconvenient 😛 The worst part is that it actually happens all the time lol
Thankfully that has not happened yet.
Several times when my husband is cooking or frying something on the stove my smoke alarm has gone off. It’s never fun waking up in the middle of the night (he usually works nights so on his nights off he stays up all night mostly and gets hungry just like at work lol) listening to the alarm going off and wondering if it is something urgent or just him burning something in the oven again.
Oh boy…about a year ago we had just moved into a new apartment, and one night at about 11:30 our smoke alarm started to chirp. Not only was it going to keep us awake, it was driving my dog NUTS, and he was barking at it, too. Quite a cacophony! We realized it needed new batteries, which we had…but we had just moved in and didn’t know where to find them. As far as we knew, the nearest store was about twenty minutes away (we didnt know yet there was one around the corner), so our best solution was to knock on one of our new neighbors’ door and ask to borrow some batteries. Thank goodness, this led to a new friendship…and it shut the darn thing up!
It went off in the middle of showering because I forgot to completely shut the door so the steam activated the alarm!
When we (my husband and I) decided to make sandwiches around 1 am in the morning using the toaster oven and the alarm went off because the cheese dripped and disturbed the sleeping kids
when i accidentally left some grease on the stove and my skillet started smoking. talk about glad i had it
Our smoke alarm goes off in the middle of the night! It wakes EVERYONE up except my husband! :/
in my old apartment, my smoke alarm went off every time I used the oven, and nothing was burning!
My mother was making a toasted cheese sandwich and forgot it. This was at 2am and the alarm woke us all up
