Even though we love our gadgets, there’s something to be said for the pioneering products that paved the way to today’s technological advances. This year’s Gadget Lovers Gift Guide includes some of my favorite new gadgets along with others that are throwbacks to a more simple era before everything was smart, connected, and used artificial intelligence. This year’s guide features 15 gifts that are well-designed, functional, innovative, and well worth the investment for the gadget lovers in your life.

Huawei Band 2 Pro ($49.99 from Amazon)
Gadget lovers and fitness enthusiasts who are looking for a way to stay healthy will appreciate the Huawei Band 2 Pro. For years I struggled to find a fitness tracker that would help me stay on top of my running goals and notify me of incoming calls without needing to be charged mid-way through the day. I’ve been impressed with the Huawei Band 2 Pro because it features built in GPS, continuous heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and run coaching that make it a great training companion plus it has a great battery life and helps me stay connected by allowing me to check notifications in real time. I can reject calls, view messages, set alarms, and more through the touch face interface on my Band 2 Pro. And bonus- it’s also waterproof so it can handle sweat, a post-workout shower, and even track your swims.
Smarter Coffee ($249.99)
Imagine being able to start your coffee with a tap of a button even before you roll out of bed or telling Alexa to do it for you. Thanks to Smarter Coffee, you can! Smarter Coffee enables coffee lovers to brew coffee with a voice command to Alexa. It can also be set to detect when you arrive home from a morning workout or after your evening commute and it will automatically start brewing. Integrate into your existing smart home tech so when coffee starts brewing, the kitchen lights turn on. And if you have guests visiting who sleep in after you leave for work, you can brew them a fresh pot of coffee cup of coffee remotely using the Smarter app.

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to play guitar but have felt strapped for time for lessons, FRETX is a device that attaches to any guitar to help you learn how to play. Just attach FRETX to your guitar, download the app, and place your fingers where it lights up to start learning chords and songs right out of the box.
Bezalel Wireless Charging Charger Pad for iOS and Android Devices ($49.99)
It’s a small thing but being able to put your phone down to charge is magical. It’s not hard to plug in the charging cable but in a house where there are little kids who like to grab at wires or an office where outlets are located behind furniture, simply plug in BEZALEL Futura X Qi Wireless Charging Charger Pad, leave it on a flat surface, and place your phone on it and the palm sized Qi wireless charging technology will take care of the rest.
Qwerkywriter ($299 or $199 for a refurbished one)
For the nostalgic gadget lover, Qwerkywriter is a typewriter-inspired wireless mechanical keyboard that features keys for typing on your Bluetooth enabled device that you can insert in the stand. Wirelessly connect it to up to 3 devices or via a USB cord, use the wheels on both sides to scroll and control the volume of your digital device, and there’s even a carriage return lever will help you go to the next line.
Polaroid Vintage Photo Frames ($14.99)
As much as we love taking digital photos, it’s really nice to get them off of our computers and phones to enjoy printed versions especially when they’re in super cute vintage photo frames like these. These vintage Polaroid frames come in 8 eye-popping colors and include magnetic clothespins and rope for stringing and hanging frames.
Motiv Fitness Ring ($199)
There are no shortage of smart watches and bands to track our every move but if you’re looking for something more low profile but works to monitor your fitness, heart rate, and sleep, you might want to take a look at the Motiv Fitness Ring. I haven’t personally tried Motiv yet but am impressed with this sleek always- on ring that can be used with other fitness trackers or smart watches. It comes in slate gray or rose gold and is wrapped in a titanium shell so it’s light an stylish as well as waterproof and apparently, “resistant to any chemical you’d be brave enough to put your fingers in.” Motiv uses Bluetooth to sync with your phone automatically or you can twist it on your finger a few times to get it to connect on-demand. The typical battery life is 3 days and charging is made easy thanks to super slim charging docks that plug into any USB port and can charge your Motiv in just 90 minutes. Right now Motiv only works with iOS devices but you can sign up to be notified for when they release Motiv for Android.
Public Radio- Single Station Tuner ($45)
Sure, you could listen to Spotify or the entire contents of your music library via voice commands issued to Alexa or Google Home but sometimes you just want good old fashioned FM radio. This minimalist Mason Jar radio comes pre-tuned to the station of your choice so all you have to do is turn a single knob and start listening to this cordless unit that uses two AA batteries that can provide up to 30 hours of listening. There’s no overly complicated controls, need to pair it to Bluetooth, or apps that need to be downloaded in order for it to work. It’s just FM radio in a super simple form!
PawScout ($19.95)
Dog owners who love their four legged friends as part of the family will love PawScout. This affordable tag hangs from your dog’s collar and when used with the companion app, provides a full digital profile of your pet that can include photos, your contact information, vaccinations, and any behavioral or medical issues, functions as a digital pet finder so you can find your missing pet faster, serves as a virtual leash that notifies you when your dog strays from your yard, the park, or anywhere else your fur baby should be, and ’s ability to function as a community pet finder, and has the ability to discover or share local pet-friendly finds. And the best part about PawScout is that it is affordably priced at just $19.95 and doesn’t have any associated monthly service charges! For an extra $9.95 you can get a custom engraved nameplate that ships for free.
Epson Workforce ET-4750 ($399)
Substitute horse for force in the name of this printer and you’d have an accurate description of the Epson Workforce that’s perfect for your home, work, and family needs. I love that it has cartridge-free printing and the fact that it comes 2 years with ink in the box so I’m not running out in search of ink at some late hour for a last minute school project. The included ink is enough to print up to 11,200 pages and equal to 30 ink cartridge sets yet remarkably easy to fill thanks to each color being uniquely keyed for easy filling. Another bonus is that you save up to 80% on ink thanks to low-cost replacement bottles. Other features include a high-capacity 250-sheet paper tray, fax, 2.4″ color touchscreen, 30-sheet ADF, fast auto 2-sided printing, and convenient wired and wireless networking but honestly, it was the lack of cartridges and the high capacity of ink that had me sold on this Epson for our home.

Cooler than The Clapper, TreeMote is a wireless remote switch that you can use to turn on your Christmas tree and other lights during other times of the year. Forget those cheap cables for charging your devices and invest in ones from Ventev.
