When my kids were younger, we loved seeing The Washington Ballet’s Nutcracker as a way to get into the holiday spirit but now that they’re older, we’ve expanded beyond holiday themed shows. We still love the theater and bonding over great productions and this holiday season we’re looking forward to seeing Beautiful- The Carole King Musical at The National Theatre.
About Beautiful- The Carole King Musical
Beautiful – The Carole King Musical tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history.
Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation. It features a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil, including “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got A Friend” and the title song, Beautiful. This Tony® and Grammy® Award winning show is about the early life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter and is being performed at The National Theatre over the holidays.
Full of pop music, this 1950s-era biography is appropriate for all ages but really sounds perfect for music lovers ages 10 and up. Parents planning to attend Beautiful as a family will appreciate knowing that the run time is approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, including one intermission.
