My former high school journalism teacher is ‘da bomb.
Known as Woj, she was a wonderful teacher. Over the years she’s become a good friend since we’ve kept in touch long after I graduated and now have conversations via Facebook. Yes, Facebook!
Woj is no ordinary teacher! Beyond her interest in journalism, she’s also fascinated in transforming the classroom using digital media.
As I look to return to work as a Technology Magnet Coordinator in school that has a technology magnet program in just a few weeks, Woj’s new piece, Convene, Connect, Transform: Teachers on Roll to Transform Schools, in the Huffington Post is of great interest to me. She encourages “teachers to go home and connect with colleagues and community members, and help to transform the classroom using digital media” because “not enough schools are using digital media to enhance learning.”
When I started this blog to bridge my former professional life with my life as a stay-at-home mom, I had no idea that blogging could also be used as a tool in classroom instruction. Not only is it a wonderful way to facilitate communication with parents, but it can also serve as a great way to provide practical writing experience for children. I can just see it now…A blog for every classroom!
If you are interested in digital media in the classroom, check out Woj’s article, Convene, Connect, Transform: Teachers on Roll to Transform Schools and be sure to help support teachers in their efforts to bring the digital age into schools.
And thanks Woj…You fostered my love of journalism and taught me all the important qualities of writing that are part of my blogging voice today!

Thanks Leticia for your very complementary post about me. I am honored to have been your teacher and now your friend! I love your blog and think it will help lots of parents keep up-to-date and help them pick effective technology to use with their children. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the link – I can’t wait to read your teach’s HuffPo piece.
