It’s been almost a year since the Sesame Street crew joined Twitter and if you’re not already following Oscar the Grouch, Grover, Abby Cadabby, Elmo, Ernie, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Count Von Count, and even Ernie’s Rubber Duckie, make a list and start following them now. They’re sure to put a smile on your face as they remain true to character in 140 characters or less and will make you feel better if you have a case of the Mondays, are trying to get some Hump Day motivation, or just want to feel like a kid again.
Cookie Monster @MeCookieMonster
Me heard of something called “computer cookie”! How can me get one? Me bet it delicious!
— Cookie Monster (@MeCookieMonster) January 13, 2016
Blue, furry, and true to character, Cookie Monster is all about cookies on Twitter. He’s asked if they can be tweeted to him, shared philosophical moments about cookies, shared his diet (mostly cookies and the surprise tofu stir fry), and is always looking up cookie recipes.

Oscar is just as grouchy via 140 characters as you’d expect him to be. He’s not as avid of a Twitter user as Cookie Monster but he does like attaching photos and videos to his occasional tweets to add some multimedia to emphasize his grouchy point.
Elmo @Elmo
Hello! What are Elmo’s friends doing today?
— Elmo (@elmo) January 28, 2016
As expected, Elmo talks in the third person and is just as sunny and happy as he always is. He often tells his followers that he loves them, wishes you a happy day, and will sometimes even include his fish Dorothy.
Count Von Count @CountVonCount
Six hundred ninety five! Ah ah ah!
— Count Von Count (@CountVonCount) January 28, 2016
If you’re looking for diverse content from this character’s Twitter, you won’t find it. Instead you’ll know exactly how many times the Count has tweeted. This is probably the reason why he’s Sesame Street’s most prolific Twitter user, sometimes tweeting multiple times a day.
Big Bird @BigBird
Today was the best day to be a bird! I am ending it with my favorite bird seed snacks from Hooper’s Store! pic.twitter.com/P73lR6aGVB
— Big Bird (@BigBird) January 5, 2016
Out of all the Sesame Street characters, Big Bird is probably the most Twitter savvy. He tags friends like @FLOTUS in his tweets, includes photos of places he’s visiting (I was in the audience when this photo was snapped of him at the Global Citizen’s Festival!), is hashtag savvy, and has even been known to use Twitter for knock knock jokes with @Elmo.

Me and my best friend, @BigBird. pic.twitter.com/NP7iaHQJ8W
— Snuffleupagus (@MrSnuffleupagus) August 6, 2015
His bio reads “Best friend, @BigBird. Snuffleupagus. First name: Aloysius. Attends Snufflegarten.” and the few tweets from his account reflect his love of his best friend. I love how Snuffleupagus’ account reads like a conversation between he and Bird. It’s absolutely charming.
If your favorite character wasn’t listed above, chances are they have a Twitter account but they’re just not using it yet. We can’t wait to see what these beloved characters have to say when they start tweeting!
