As I held a bottle in my hand during breakfast with Philips at CES one morning, I was instantly transported back to the baby years. The shape of the Avent bottle in my hand felt familiar even as Emily turns 13 this week and Thomas is now 10. The big difference is this bottle is far smarter than the ones that my kids used when they were babies.
“Creating innovations that matter to people” is part of the core vision of Philips. This people-centric approach has led to a new generation of technology innovations designed to help us be healthy, live well, and enjoy life whether you’re watching television on one of their monitors, cooking with a Philips appliance, brushing your teeth with a Sonicare toothbrush, dimming your Philips Hue bulbs via your smartphone app, or feeding your baby with an Avent bottle with a Smart Baby Bottle Sleeve.
This year Philips debuted a variety of connected healthcare solutions for a wide range of ages at CES 2017. Here’s more information about the technology innovations that are designed to help babies through adults.
uGrow Digital Parenting Platform
With a wide variety of consumer products in their portfolio, I was most impressed with how Philips has developed their uGrow Digital Parenting Platform to provide parents with personal advice that matters to the health and wellbeing of their baby. With over 350,000 babies born around the world every day, uGrow enables parents to celebrate pregnancy, birth and their child’s healthy development by helping parents track their baby’s vital statistics.
Connected products like the Philips Avent Smart Baby Monitor ($239.99) and Smart Ear Thermometer ($59.99) help track temperature to sleep and presents data in a useful way for both parents and healthcare professionals who can then provide parents with more personalized advice and guidance.
The Smart Baby Bottle Sleeve that fits around Avent bottles monitors milk temperature and volume of milk a baby drinks. It can be connected to an air purifier to monitor air quality and also to Philips Hue lighting system to create a relaxing soothing environment to encourage sleep routines and healthy feeding habits.
Inputting data and tracking information into uGrow will soon be easier with the addition of Amazon Echo voice activation.
Sonicare for Kids Teaches the Youngest Ages Healthy Brushing Habits
As your child grows, Philips Sonicare ‘s Sonicare for Kids Sonic Electric Toothbrush is a way for kids to take charge of their personal health in an age appropriate way. This Bluetooth enabled toothbrush interacts encourages kids to brush longer as they help animated character, Sparkly, brush. Each time kids help Sparkly brush for the first 90 days they use their Sonic Electric Toothbrush, they get something that helps them take care of Sparkly. The gamification factor developed by Sonicare for young ages encourages healthy brushing habits as kids learn this important lifelong skill.
Philips Digital Health Innovations for Adults
In addition to innovations for babies and kids, Philips also shared connected products that can aid parents. The new Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected Toothbrush ($219.99) and Philips Sonicare Breath care empower people to take better care of their oral health by giving users data and guidance to empower them to proactively manage and improve their oral health.
For the 8 million patients with sleep apnea and struggle with therapy, Philips DreamWear is a welcome portable solution for those in need of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy while traveling. It features smaller tubing, a flexible silicon mask where the tubing attaches at the top to allow users to sleep comfortably, and much smaller CPAP machine that can fit inside a carry-on, instead of being a separate one. It’s designed to help patients feel like they are not wearing a mask and works by directing airflow through the sides of the mask frame so patients can sleep comfortably in any position with the freedom to move in bed.
DreamWear can be used with the DreamStation app to collect data about sleeping and breathing patterns to help those with sleep apnea get better results and healthier sleep. For those used to SleepMapper, DreamMapper is the new generation of the product that helps new patients adjust to sleep therapy by actively engaging them through daily reminders and encouragement messages.
